Punctuality & Attendance

School starts at 8.30am and finishes at 3.00pm.

You must ensure that your child arrives at school at the correct time. If your child is absent from school for any reason it is essential that you provide us with an adequate explanation by telephone: 0116 451 0050 before 09.00am and followed by medical evidence. Otherwise the absence will be recorded as ‘unauthorised’. We are required to publish details of unauthorised absences and this reflects on the school. If your child misses a lot of school, a referral will be made to the Educational Welfare Service which will support you in improving your child’s attendance. Absences for reasons other than illness are not normally permitted except in very special circumstances which must be authorised by the Headteacher. Please try to make dental and doctor appointment for after school.

HIGH VIEW ATTENDANCE FACT SHEET

The majority of parents want the best for their children. Having a good education is an important factor in opening up many more opportunities in adult life. Going to school regularly is important to your child’s future. Children who miss school frequently can fall behind with their work and do less well in their exams and miss out on important factors of social life, which can affect their ability to form friendships. Children who miss school frequently are more likely to leave school with few or no qualifications and are more likely to be out of work or homeless. Poor school attendance is also closely associated with crime. Once your child is registered at a school, you are legally responsible for making sure they attend regularly. If your child fails to do so, you are at risk of getting a penalty fine or being prosecuted.

5 tips to help you and your child make going to school easier

  1. Help them to get their school bag ready the night before.
  2. Make sure you have their uniform ready especially after the weekend or holidays
  3. Get them to bed at a reasonable time so they have a good night sleep.
  4. Make sure they have a good breakfast
  5. Remind them to set off for the bus or start walking early enough so they won’t be late: Punctuality is important.

Record of holiday / leave of absence

This form must be completed if you are taking your child on a holiday or having leave of any kind from school in term time. Please complete all sections of the form. A separate application must be completed for each child. Please ask for help if you do not understand any part of this form.
Any holiday in term time will not be authorised but we still need this form to be completed so that we know the reason for your child’s absence.
