News and Events in Reception
Below you can see some of our news and events in Reception this year.
Lifecycle of a frog
The children were very excited to see how some of our class tadpoles have grown into froglets and frogs.
Ms Southward's reception class were very excited to win the attendance award in the last week of Spring term 2. We hope that we can win it again in the summer term.
Guide Dogs for the Blind
We recently had a vist from two dogs as part of our pets topic. Ally the guide dog visited us with her owner Ruth. We learned about how Ally had to train to be a guide dog and how she now helps guide Ruth. We also met Sky a 5 month old puppy who is currently in puppy training so she can go on to be a guide dog when she is older.
We have been enjoying growing things at school. The children planted carrots and runner beans and have enjoyed looking after them and talking about how they are growing.
Science in a Suitcase
Selwyn (the science man) brought suitcase full of fantastic science experiments and equipment to explore. The children really enjoyed playing with lots of different things and learning some of the science behind how they worked.
World Book Day
The children (and teachers!) all dressed up for world book day on March the 2nd. We joined with Year 1 for a series of storytelling sessions and book related activities. Ms Southward and Miss Kaur-Malhi dressed as Supertato and Evil Pea (from Sue Hendra's Supertato book series) and after a live action storytelling session the children undertook activities such as creating their own vegetable superhero and potato printing. Miss Green and Miss Solanki dressed up as NoBots (from Sue Hendra's NoBot book) and the children worked together to create large junk model robots. Mrs Kaur and Mrs Khalsa were Little Red Riding Hood and the woodcutter and the children went on a wolf hunt. Not nly did the children hear lots of stories and take part in fun activities it also gave the children an opportunity to spend time with year 1 staff and the Reception team to see the children they taught last year in Reception.
Family Challenge: Make a place of worship
The children in Reception and their families worked really hard to make places of worship. We had churches, mosques, mandirs, gurdwaras and places of worship where all faiths were welcomed. Some of the models won special prizes.
Pets in class
Our topic this term is pets and we have our class stick insects to look after. We also have a tank of fish and Wallis the russian dwarf hamster has joined the class. Wallis loves the children talking to him and being given cardboard boxes and tubes to chew. The children have been writing him lots of notes too.
